Le Bon Appetit in Memphis
On Saturday, April 5, chef Steven will participate in Le Bon Appetit, a charity event presented by Le Bonheur Club and chef Kelly English in Memphis. This evening of extraordinary culinary tastings will benefit Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, the region’s only comprehensive pediatric medical facility. Hosted by Claire Robinson of the Food Network, this celebration of food and wine will include 40 of the nation’s most celebrated chefs, mixologists, pastry chefs and television personalities, all working toegether to support the children of Le Bonheur. Each visiting chef will be paired with a host chef to prepare two unique dishes created especially for the event. To complement the chefs’ cuisine, guests will enjoy premium wine pairings.
The funds raised from this year’s benefit will go toward the purchase of pediatric ambulances to assist Le Bonheur in providing the highest quality medical care for children in need. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
New South Family Supper at Summerland Farm
In celebration of the South and its unique cookery, Steven will join regional chefs and artisans for New South Family Supper, a meal benefiting the Southern Foodways Alliance on Sunday, April 6 at Summerland Farm. Hosted by Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison, the supper will bring together thoughtful chefs, artisans and eaters for an evening of dining on the farm . Proceeds from the event will benefit Southern Foodways Alliance, an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi. Through documentary, classroom and outreach initiatives, SFA set a common table where all who gather may consider our history and future in a spirit of reconciliation.
Tickets include food, beverage, programming and round trip transportation from Atlanta to Summerland Farm in Cartersville, Ga. Buses will depart from Star Provisions in Atlanta at 3:30 p.m. and return at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
Open Hand’s “Dining Out for Life” Fundraiser
On Wednesday, April 23, Miller Union will participate in the 22nd Annual Dining Out for Life event benefiting Open Hand. In support of the non-profit’s work, 25 percent of food and beverage sales will be donated by the restaurant. Over the years, Open Hand has evolved into the largest producer and distributor of home-delivered meals in the United States, preparing and delivering more than 5,500 freshly cooked, nutritious meals to people in metro-Atlanta whose health complications have impaired their ability to prepare meals for themselves.
Since 1993, Atlanta-area restaurants have raised more than $2.8 million in support of Open Hand meals and community nutrition programs. Miller Union has participated in the fundraising event for five years. For more information and reservations, click here.
James Beard Foundation Awards
We are thrilled for chef Steven’s James Beard Foundation nomination for “Best Chef: Southeast” for the second year in a row. Steven will head to New York City for the 2014 Awards ceremony at Lincoln Center on Monday, May 5. In addition, he will cook alongside chef Anne Quatrano of Star Provisions and Bacchanalia and Matt and Ted Lee of The Lee Bros. at the 2014 James Beard Book, Broadcast and Journalism Awards on Friday, May 2, at New York’s Gotham Hall.
